Fisher's Jig

Back to Uptown dances

History:

Our original jig, for one or two dancers. Typical of Uptown, it isn't in jig time.

Tune:

The Fisher's Hornpipe

Implements:

Hankies

Disportment:

OY, FU, DF, RTF (Tap) Capers, DF, Upright Capers, DF.

Distinctive Figure:

Two sidesteps in opposite directions (originally left then right), two "foray" capers, two more sidesteps, and four walking steps back. When danced for two, the dancer on the left takes a right sidestep first, in front of the other dancer who is doing a sidestep left. Then on the second sidestep, the one who started on the left returns with a left sidestep behind the other. Capers may be danced together, or taking turns.
